Music Theory
Group - Beginning MIDI Sequencing
60 Minute
Sessions - (Limit 6 per session)
For the student with at least two years
of piano, this class reinforces theory learned in private lessons and can take the student on into advanced theory studies.
Together with the study of music theory, this group will work with electronic MIDI keyboards to further explore music through
composition and orchestration using sequencing. Each of the players is given a different orchestral part to play on
a keyboard. They must already be able to read and count music so that when they play the parts together they have produced
a "piano orchestra". This proven learning concept has shown improved comprehension in the student and it can help the
student achieve fluent playing much sooner.
(For the Advanced student interested in learning orchestration and/or composition, a full MIDI Workstation is available,
using a variety of software, such as Finale and Cool Edit Pro. Loops are available for your use or
you can bring your own. Call or email me for hourly and block rates.)
RECORDING
SERVICES
My studio is equiped with a Steinway B grand piano, a Roland G1000 Electronic Keyboard, a Yamaha Keyboard, two Yamaha
Disk Orchestra Unit sequencers, two Sennheiser microphones, a Mackie mixer, and a computer dedicated only to music. With
an isolation booth for digitally recording singers (or other instruments) a CD of near commercial quality can be produced.
An audio engineer is "on call" to come to my studio for recording students as they request it. Some students send CDs
along with their applications for entrance to colleges and universities, or for competitions. And, of course, many of
them use this service to make a gift for their families. The Engineer gives my students a deep discount on his hourly
charge. You may bring your own accompanist or I will accompany my students at no charge. For people who
are not my students the Engineer charge is $50.00 per hour and accompanist charge is $60.00 per hour.
